My art piece makes a critical statement about memory, referencing the human brain’s ability to alter our memories in favor of ourselves. I explore my own mind and depict my childhood as I remember it by using watercolors. Growing up watercolors were one of the first art mediums I used and became accustomed to the way they depicted colors so naturally, I decided on this project because of how impactful my childhood was for me, alongside the mere curiosity of wanting to explore my mind and recollect ‘forgotten memories’. Our brains can alter our memory, and this can be as little as what color a dress was to what actually happened in an important time of our lives.

My name is Olga Arias Brito and I am an international student from Ecuador, I moved to the United States to get my college education at Hamline University where I am majoring in Digital Media Arts and Marketing. Ever since I was young, I have always been passionate about art more specifically drawing! My parents have supported me and had me take drawing classes since they noticed my affinity to art, for that I am grateful for. As I just started to process that I am graduating I am grateful for all the memories and knowledge these past years at HU gave me. Congrats to the Class of 2020!
